Hear The Killers’ Brandon Flowers go country-western on lead ‘THRASHER’ single “Plans”

Everybody’s been going country lately and one of the latest people to do so is The Killers’ Brandon Flowers, whose first solo album in over a decade THRASHER is a self-proclaimed “country western” album. The first single “Plans” is here now, and it is indeed very much a country song. It’s a twangy, vintage-sounding, fiddle-and-pedal-steel-fueled ballad that you could picture soundtracking a honky tonk slow dance, with Flowers’ unmistakable voice in the forefront. Check it out below.

“The fact that I love new wave and rock and roll has been well-documented,” Flowers said when announcing the album. But a life is long enough to allow for more. Walt Whitman said it best, ‘I am large, I contain multitudes.’ Well, I’m larger now than I was 20 years ago, and I’ve unlocked a room that feels like it’s been waiting for me all along: country western music, my father’s music. It has offered itself to me and the stories I have to tell at the moment with a breezy enthusiasm.”

THRASHER was produced by Shawn Everett & Jonathan Rado, who both produced the last two Killers albums, and it features Gillian Welch collaborator David Rawlings, veteran pedal steel player Bruce Bouton, and veteran harmonica player Charlie McCoy (who played on four classic Bob Dylan albums).

THRASHER is out August 21 (preorder on vinyl), and Brandon will be on tour this fall and plays NYC’s  Brooklyn Paramount on September 18. All dates are below.
