YouTube revealed some fun expansions for creators this week, including rolling out its voice replies option to all creators. This enables channel managers to respond to comments on their videos with voice clips. The tech giant also said it’s testing some new remix tools for Shorts.
First tested with select creators in December 2024, voice replies got a broader rollout to millions of creators throughout the following year. Finally, YouTube is releasing the option to all creators.
“We’re happy to announce that the voice replies feature, which enables creators to reply to comments on their videos with their voice, is now available to all creators,” said YouTube. “Creators can now record a voice reply to comments from the YouTube main app or Studio Mobile on Android and iOS.”
The idea is to give viewers tools to easily generate new clips based on Shorts from the creators they love, offering a way to enhance Shorts engagement and creative trends while generating even more content into the ecosystem. Both new editing tools build on YouTube’s Extend with AI option released in September, which enables viewers to create alternative endings to clips using AI. It’s apparent that YouTube is experimenting with AI elements to find the right combination of tools to enhance Shorts engagement for its viewers.
YouTube also recently announced an upgrade to its Premium Lite subscription, which besides ad-free viewing now provides users with background play and offline downloads for non-music related video content. The more affordable tier now differs from the full Premium subscription offerings with the lack of ad-free YouTube Music access, which the full subscription includes.
