So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

DAN DEACON – ‘TASK’ ORIGINAL TELEVISION SCORE
HBO crime drama Task wraps up its first (only?) season on Sunday and just ahead of that they’ve released the soundtrack album with the score by Dan Deacon. “Working on Task was perhaps the most musically rewarding experience of my career,” says Dan. “I fell in love with the scripts and immediately began writing demos based on the emotional response from Brad’s writing. The story contains a massive expanse of emotional range, and we aimed for a score to accompany the scope of his writing. We talked at length about scale and density: when to be huge, when to be small, when to push in, and when to rest. It was a collaborative exploration of range. The series builds its core musical motifs around ‘families’ and how they interact and affect each other, shifting the themes and motifs as the story progresses. This approach helped us hone in on our main themes and approach them with a modular/mashup mindset for building deeper, more interconnected relationships as the series progresses.”

GRIMES – “ARTIFICIAL ANGELS”
“The only AI on the song is the voice at the beginning and the end,” Grimes wrote about her new single on Twitter/X. “I am opposed to ai music in some forms. I think it can be useful for some things but the apps mostly took the cool ai artifacts out if it and I’m not super interested in it to just make normal music. It’s only useful to me for novel/ experimental sound design were they to allow that aspect back. Or possibly for more efficient advanced things like bg noise removal etc. Or for jokes. Otherwise I fear it is a bit slop oriented at the moment which seems like the opposite of innovation to me. It def has the capacity to innovate tho.”
