Dune Sea’s ‘Omuamua’ warped distortion into sermons of fuzzed-up cosmic catharsis  –

Dune Sea promised a New Wave of Cosmic Heavy Metal with their latest album, and with the standout single Omuamua as one of the sharpest cuts on the LP, they delivered in full psychedelic ferocity. The seminal single puts the experimentalism of Osees to shame while serving up ferociously mind-twisting fuzz that softens the blow of the hard-hitting instrumentals, contorting them into a hypnotic pool of scuzz. You won’t come out the other side of this track clean.

There’s an almost sermonic quality to the production, one that makes it abundantly clear that Dune Sea kneels at the altar of discordantly delicious distortion. The visceralism hits like a cosmic rite channelled through amps, built on the backbone of a juggernaut on acid. The riffs churn, swirl and grind with enough weight to throw your brain’s axis off-centre while the vocals hover just enough above the sludge to lead the trip into the belly of the sonic beast.

Formed in Trondheim, the trio have always fixated on the blissful intersection between the heavy and the psychedelic. With Omuamua, they continue to push those boundaries while threading in elements of jazz-rock, improvisation, and cosmic mysticism. Their lyrics dig into precarious states of mind, science fiction fantasies, and the esoteric pull of the outer limits. As they settle into their fourth album, complete with a newly sharpened live lineup, Dune Sea prove they’re conjuring entire dimensions through dissonance.

Omuamua is now available on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify.
