TikTok’s year-end music report named Los Angeles-based girl group KATSEYE as the platform’s Global Artist of the Year. Despite only forming in 2023, the group has become “one of the biggest bands in the world,” according to TikTok, with over 30 billion views and 12 million creations using their music on the platform this year.
That milestone puts the proverbial cherry on top of the year for KATSEYE, who were recently nominated for their first two Grammy Awards, as well as the TikTok Award for Breakthrough Artist of the Year. KATSEYE was behind “multiple viral music moments” on TikTok this year, including trends with their tracks “Gnarly” and “Gabriela.”
Perhaps most notable on TikTok’s list is the late singer Connie Francis, whose 1962 hit “Pretty Little Baby” became TikTok’s Global Song of the Year. It was also the #1 song in the U.S., and the #3 song in the UK. According to TikTok, its user base “embraced the track in their millions,” using the song in their creations over 28.4 million times, for over 68.6 billion views.
As a result of her renewed fame, Connie Francis joined TikTok this year, joining in on the trend involving her own song, and posting a heartfelt message to fans.
“I’m flabbergasted and excited about the huge buzz my 1962 recording of ‘Pretty Little Baby’ is making all over the world,” said Francis. “To think that a song I recorded 63 years ago is captivating new generations of audiences is truly overwhelming for me. Thank you, TikTok.”
Connie Francis was a beloved star in the 1950s and ‘60s, with hits like “Who’s Sorry Now,” “Stupid Cupid,” and “Lipstick On Your Collar.” She was the first solo female artist to reach #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
