So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

JAAKKO EINO KALEVI – “BLACK DIAMOND” (STRATOVARIUS COVER)

Jaakko Eino Kalevi is back with this new single that is an synth interpretation of Finnish power metal band Statovarius’ song “Black Diamond” that sounds somewhere between Goblin’s Suspiria theme and the theme to Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace. “I always felt that the song had potential beyond metal – even for the disco floor – so I decided to give it a go,” he says.

BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE – “HEY AMANDA”

“This is a song about being yourself, and how people will always question that,” Broken Social Scene say of “Hey Amanda,” the second single off Remember the Humans, their first album in almost a decade.

BILL ORCUTT & MABE FRATTI – “ALMOST WAKING” AND “EL INICIO ES CUESTIÓN DE SUERTE”

Experimental all-stars guitarist Bill Orcutt and cellist/vocalist Mabe Fratti are joining forces for new album Almost Waking which will be out May 22 via Tin Angel. Says Bill, “A couple years ago Mabe Fratti made the mistake of mentioning my name in a list of her favorite albums. I immediately sent an email proposing a collaboration. And today you can hear the first two singles.”

MARIA TAYLOR – “SORRY I WAS YOURS” (FT. CONOR OBERST)

“I met Conor close to 30 years ago,” Maria Taylor says. “Music has always been such a strong part of our connection. As soon as we met, I started periodically touring with Bright Eyes as either the keyboard player or the drummer. Our friendship turned into a romantic love that lasted 7 years which eventually morphed into the love we have now, which feels like family. A couple of years ago we decided we wanted to write a song together, so I went over to his house with my guitar and computer. I was playing him songs that I was working on and when he heard this one, he perked up and ran inside to grab his pen and notebook. Hours later we finished the song and even made a demo. So many beautiful contributions from these friends that made the song better than I could have imagined: Brad Armstrong, Mike Mogis, Macey Taylor, Ben Brodin, Nate Walcott, Tiffany Osborn, Hannah Murray, and Paul Cartwright.” It’s from Story’s End, her first solo album in over 7 years.

TOTAL FUCKING DARKNESS – “BEATEN TO WRITE”

Stars’ Torquil Campbell and Young Galaxy’s Stephen Ramsay have been releasing singles as Total Fucking Darkness for a couple years now and here’s the latest tears-on-the-dancefloor banger.

DAVE HARRINGTON & TIM MISLOCK – “HELP ON THE WAVE”

Mexican electronic/shoegaze duo Lorelle Meets The Obsolete will release new EP Corporeal on May 1 via Sonic Cathedral. It features two new tracks and remixes from their recent album Corporal. One of those new songs is “Progresso.” “This is one of my favourites,” says the band’s Alberto González. “I love that the drums only last a bit. We’ve tried to have this mood before in our discography but we never succeeded until this time.”

I AM THE AVALANCHE – “LAUGHING AND BLEEDING”

I Am The Avalanche’s new album The Horror Show arrives net month, and they’ve given us another early taste with “Laughing and Bleeding.” “When you have real pals in this life, you can and will go to hell on Earth and back together,” they say. “You can also reach levels of joy, love, and friendship that some only find in a dream.”

CHARLEY CROCKETT – “FASTEST GUN ALIVE”

Charley Crockett has given us another taste of his new album Age of the Ram, which arrives on April 3.

PAULA KELLEY (DROP NINETEENS) – “THE DENIAL”

“‘The Denial’ is one of the first tracks I wrote after my long dark period,” Drop Nineteens singer/guitarist Paula Kelley says of this new single from her upcoming solo album. I don’t answer the lyrical question (How do people live?) within in the song; the writing of the song itself was the answer. It came together in my head with a rustic rhythm a la ‘Give Peace a Chance.’ Initially I wanted the intro to have a sample of that beat. We tried to make it work, but more we retrofitted it, the worse it sounded, so we just created our own version. But credit where credit is due, John.” Blinking as the Starlight Burns Out will be out March 27.

SECRET WORLD – “IT HURTS”
